The Young Filmmakers Guide provides an introduction to digital film making to Secondary School learners in grades 11 and 12.  The course guides the learners how to make a  short, three minute, film.  The learners are introduced the the key concepts to engage when developing the idea for a film. Then each the roles and functions of each of the key team members required to make a film are explored.  Once the key idea and script are developed, the students form a team to make the film and to fulfil the various team member roles.  Working as a team, they take their project through the various stages of pre-production, production, post-production, to distribution.  The students work on this project using digital equipment and software to which they have access.  The main objective of the course is to let them understand the film making process. There is some additional supporting information provided about using smartphone and free software to fulfil some of the technical aspects of working on this project.

The students will have the option if they wish to submit their work to an annual AFDA student film festival to celebrate their work.
